Toronto Women’s Summer 10K & 5K – Race Recap

This past weekend, the Toronto Women's Summer 10K & 5K once again proved why it has become one of the most anticipated women’s running events of the season. Runners and walkers gathered early on a chilly August morning to soak in the buzzing pre-race atmosphere filled with excitement, nerves, and plenty of race gear shining through the crowd. The course itself offered a perfect summer backdrop, with tree-lined park trails and rolling stretches that challenged runners while engulfed in the green scenery.

Conditions on race morning couldn’t have been better. A comfortable summer warmth paired with a light breeze made for fast times and an enjoyable experience for both seasoned athletes chasing PRs and first-timers taking on their first official start line. From the very first strides, the energy of spectators, friends, and family added fuel to the course, creating a supportive and uplifting community.

On the performance side, the race delivered some outstanding results. In the 10K, Philes Ongori led the field with a commanding win in 35:01, showing strength and pace from start to finish. Close behind, Kate Kocur took second in 40:31, with Maria Fecik finishing third in 40:37, a battle for the podium that highlighted the competitive depth of the race. The 5K featured its own standout moment as Sawyer Nicholson surged to victory with an impressive time of 17:28, cementing her place as one of the day’s top performers.

But beyond the finish line clock, this race was about so much more. It was about celebrating women in sport, encouraging personal breakthroughs, and fostering a sense of camaraderie that echoed through the city. Every participant had their own story, whether it was conquering a first 10K, running in honor of someone special, or simply embracing the joy of movement.
