How to plan your day, find the best spots, and cheer like a champion
It's Race Day. Now What?
Cheering on a friend, a co-worker, or a family member at a race? Your support makes a huge difference and while there is no real 'wrong' way to do it, here are some tips to make both your and their race day as memorable as possible.
1. Know the Course
Study the course map ahead of time so you can pick the best viewing spots. Races may loop through neighbourhoods multiple times or maybe choose a spot where you can be easily spotted by your athlete. If you know your athlete will need some encouragement late in the race, position yourself where your athlete needs a boost the most.
2. Track Their Progress
Find the race ahead of time on our website sportstats.one and make sure to add them to your follow list to easily find their information on race day. Follow your athlete in real-time, so you don’t miss that big moment at the finish line.
3. Bring the Energy
Signs, cowbells, and loud cheers go a long way! A quick “You’ve got this!” or “Looking strong!” might be the motivation they need to push through. Please avoid making your way onto a meme of what not to do! Stay off the course and avoid getting trampled by athletes! The sidelines are the best place to make a difference.
4. Be Prepared
Pack snacks, water, sunscreen, and anything you might need while spectating for a few hours. Race days can be long and unpredictable. See Tip #1. Study the course, if you know there will be a long stretch of not seeing your athlete, find shade or seating. If you have little ones, find a nearby park to keep them busy until it's time to cheer again.
5. Celebrate Big
Finish lines are emotional. Be ready—after they cross the line—with a hug, a photo, or a surprise gift like custom finisher gear to commemorate the moment.
Supporting an athlete isn’t just about showing up—it’s about being part of the journey. And trust us, your presence means more than you know.
