Beyond the Numbers: A New Chapter for Sportstats
If you've ever toed a start line, waited anxiously for a loved one to finish their race, or felt the rush of stepping onto a podium, chances are, we were there too.
For decades, Sportstats has been quietly working behind the scenes of endurance events across North America and around the world. From local fun runs to some of the most prestigious events on the planet, we've been there to make sure every athlete’s result is recorded and delivered.
But if all you know about Sportstats is your race time, then you only know a small part of the story.
That’s why we are launching this blog. We spend most of our time huddled in a tent, staring at screens, and it’s time we open up a bit. We want to show more of who we are, what we care about, and where we are headed.
Every result tells a story. We’ve seen the tears, the joy, the frustration, and the grit at every finish line. But for years, those stories have ended in a spreadsheet. And you deserve more.
You deserve a space where:
Your result is not just searchable, but it is shareable
Your performance connects to tips, stories, gear, and recovery ideas
Your journey is not lost in the crowd, it is part of something bigger
We’re not just about data. We want Sportstats to be a hub, a home for athletes like you.
This Is Not Just About Tech & Business. It's Personal.
Some of my earliest memories in sports are from chilly Michigan track meets. I was wearing a team-issued sweatshirt three sizes too big, clutching a crumpled sheet of results like it was the most important thing I’d ever been in charge of, sprinting back and forth between the finish line and the press box.
My dad was a coach and I wanted nothing more than to be part of the action. Times were scribbled by hand, stopwatches everywhere, parents and volunteers shouting numbers. It was chaotic and messy but I remember being completely enthralled by every moment of it.
Not just by the process, but by what it meant. The look on an athlete’s face as they turned to hear their time. Joy, heartbreak, pride. Those moments hit differently when you’re young, but even then, I knew. This mattered.
That was when I first understood that times are not just numbers. They’re emotional data. Proof of effort. A reflection of something intangible made real.
More than thirty years later, that connection still has me hooked.
Who We Are
Sportstats is not just a technology company. We’re not just a timer behind a computer. We’re a collection of people who have been embedded in endurance sports our entire lives.
We have staff who have been timing races since the early days of triathlon. Some of us grew up in this business. Our parents were race directors, coaches, volunteers, and early adopters of timing technology. Others came from the athlete side, chasing podiums before joining us on the operations side. Some of us still race. Some of us never miss a local 5K. Some of us are better behind the finish line than across it. And that is the point. Our team is built from the inside.
We are not trying to understand endurance sports from the outside in. We live it. We know how much it means to the people who show up every weekend.
Our company spans Canada, the United States, Mexico, Southeast Asia, and beyond. But our roots are small town and family run. We still operate with that mindset. Local race feel with elite delivery and service.
We support over 600 events each year, with tens of thousands of athletes crossing finish lines each month. But it’s not about the volume. It’s about the integrity of the experience. Every time you hit that start line, we want to get it right. And when we don’t, we own it, and we fix it.
We’re proud of what we’ve built and of the partners who trust us, the athletes who find their results with us, and the team who shows up every day with cables, tents, tablets, and coffee. But what we've built is just the start.
The next chapter for Sportstats is focused on building something better for athletes. Cleaner design. Smarter features. More meaningful tools. And better storytelling.
We want to connect you with more than just numbers. We want to reflect your effort, your experience, and your future goals.
This blog is a part of our new content strategy. Content focused on you, the athlete, and your journey through these wild and wonderful sports. We understand there are a ton of tools and endless supplies of information and data out there, but our shift in focus is to centralize that data the best we can and then build a community where we can use the data to highlight the stories behind the numbers.
Where We Are Going and How You Can Help Shape It
This blog is just the start. In the weeks ahead, we will share more about:
What Sportstats really does (Spoiler: it’s more than timing)
What we’re building to improve your experience on race day and beyond
How we’re pushing the athlete experience forward
How you can guide where we go next
We want this platform to reflect what you want. What you need. What helps make your journey better.
