Week 46

Moriah Wilson was a professional cyclist and star in the sport of gravel cycling. If you met Mo, saw Mo, or raced against Mo, you would know she had such a contiguous smile and positive attitude wherever she went. Tragically, On May 11, 2022, Wilson was murdered allegedly by Kaitlyn Armstrong - a romantic partner of one of Mo’s close friends, Colin Strickland. After several delays; court is officially in session. Tidbits

Draft Beer > Drafters on the bike: Draft legal races are absolutely the most chaotic cycling events that exist. If you’ve watched a draft legal race utterly melt down because 1 dude crashed, and now there’s a literal pile-up of a dozen plus riders, you’re either morbidly intrigued (can’t look away from a trainwreck) or absolutely disgusted someone would ride that closely. In long course triathlon, there ain’t no such thing as a free ride - and that includes drafting on the bike. In order to crack down on serial drafters, tech has now come into play.

Bike Hostages: Bad things happen when you don’t pay your bills on time. Just ask TriBike Transport, and the athletes that thought shipping their bikes with a bike partner would be easier than teaching themselves how to put their bike together. 180+ bikes are being held hostage by shippers that haven’t been paid by TBT- did we mention these bikes aren’t your Walmart Specials, and are probably worth close to a million?

Think like a Navy SEAL: David Goggins, against all odds, overcame physical, mental and learning obstacles, and became a Navy SEAL. If you’re looking to unlock the next level and channel your deepest ability to endure the hard sh*t, this book will make you want to buy a cold plunge, wake up at 5 AM and full send.

Legal(ish?) Doping: Maurten Bicarb System. All the Cool Kids (i.e.: the top medalists/record holders in various running distances) are doing it. But what is this -ahem- magic pill? Maurten’s system claims to assist high-performing athletes increase their performance and power output through their proprietary sodium bicarbonate compound.

Adventure Buddies: Remember that weird dude that used to carry their cat around in a cat carrier backpack at Walmart? Well - they’re kind of having a moment now in the adventure world. We’re pretty sure some of these photos are photoshopped, but…they’re still damn cute (or paw-fect, you could say).

🏃Bucket List Recs

Big training week behind ya and want to add something to your bucket list? Need something to kick your butt into high gear? Check out our endurance bucket list recs below and sign up for something you’ll probably regret when you’re doing a 20 mile training run in August in the Midwest.

  • Flint Hills Gravel: IYKYK Emporia Kansas has one of the biggest gravel races in the country. If you’re a less corporate vibes and more small town rider, this event is for you. Get lost in the Flint Hills - you might pop 5 tubes along the way, but damn, that journey will be worth it.

  • World Trail Majors: Forget the Grand Slam of ultrarunning - this new official, organized series for ultrarunners, takes the cake. Test your limits (and your bank account - this is a global thing), with this new ultrarunning feat.

  • Tracksmith Twilight 5000: Just because you’re not in high school or college anymore doesn’t mean you can’t rip a fast 5k on the track, under the stadium lights. Maybe you lost your fast twitch muscles, maybe you never had ‘em, but 5000m (12.5 laps around the track) is a sure way to feel speedy.

  • Yosemite’s Half Dome: If this 93-year old can hike Half Dome in Yosemite, so can you. Kick your fear of heights, imminent death and falling off a (literal) cliff to the curb; secure your permit to hike Half Dome and feel like you’re on top of the world.

Performance Of The Week(end): Harvard Physics Professor, Jennifer Hoffman.
