Week 49
On the surface, Lynn Rogers and Timmy Howard could not be more different. She's a neuroscientist who, in a twist of cruel irony, finds herself battling a rare neurological disorder. He's a former drug addict who has triumphed over addiction by focusing his energy on athletic pursuits. But they both attribute their success to the people who have surrounded them with love and support. It's the joy and camaraderie of their fellow athletes that keep them going even in the face of impossible challenges. Now they are facing one of their biggest obstacles yet: a grueling 140-mile triathlon. To cross the finish line, they'll need to rely on the lessons they've learned through life's hardships-and the community that's formed around them.
This a great documentary to watch when you need a pick-me-up and a good kick in the butt to stay focused with your endurance training through harsh winter months. Find Your Why.

👇Watch a Cadence-recommended Vid: New to winter running? Trying to get out the door fast & not taking time to layer properly? This video is for you. Running through the winter months is a great way to keep your endurance fitness and create a solid base for spring/summer miles - but you need to be dressed to impressed (Err…for the weather).

Tidbits
✅Lauren Brandon Bows Out: Lauren Brandon had a 20-year swimming career before she decided to give triathlon a tri - and when that snowballed into a surprise professional triathlete career, she rode the wave for as long as it’d carry her. America’s Sweetheart announced her retirement last week and we’re going to be mourning that for a while. Much love, Lauren!
✅Professional Snowboarding/Skiing League: Shawn White is the GOAT of all GOATS - he had an astounding professional snowboarding career that he has now segued into creating a professional league for elite snowboarders & free skiiers. Super cool.
✅Barefoot Mishap: About 10 years ago, barefoot running was ALL the rage (remember those weird Vibram toe shoes that donned every bandwagon runner’s feet). Now - it’s not as popular, and certainly not popular at all with elite runners. A few weeks ago, during the NCAA Cross Country Championships, runner-up Habtom Samuel lost his shoe about 4K into the 10K race. Down, but never out. Read about the drama HERE.
✅Aww Doggo: Bernese Mountain Dogs originated in Bern, Switzerland to help as cattle herders - but as the years went on, and people came to love these big fuzzy creatures, they became more widespread, and thus - had more widespread career options. In the 1850s, the Bernese Mountain Dog was used to pull carts of cheese and milk to customers, especially in snowy times. If you’re lucky enough to have one of these doggos - here’s your reminder to let them enjoy the snowy months!
