Week16

Patriot’s Day holds a special meaning on the East Coast; not for the history of what Patriot’s Day is, but for the epic event that happens each year - The Boston Marathon. Olympic Years (years where the Olympics fall the summer after Boston), are always questionable on how strong the field will be there. This year, all the elite athletes (and age groupers!) had a WILD day. Watch this recap to catch the 2024 recap.

In this week’s email:

  • Des Linden: The GOAT in American distance running takes 16th at Boston.

  • Goldens of Boston: You’re not crying; we’re crying. Just watch the video.

👇Watch a Cadence-recommended Vid: How many of you can honestly say you’ve committed a 110% to something - long-term? We live in a society of instant gratification everywhere you look. In a world of people taking the easy way out; commit to taking chances and doing something hard. No doubt, this video will do just that for ya.

Funny Video of the Week: David Clarke, literally 💩 his pants during Boston - still went sub-3:00 hours, impressive or repulsive?

Race Results of the Week

Tidbits

Boston Marathon Fas(t)ion: It’s not really about how fast you ARE, it’s about how fast you LOOK. Singlets, kits, jerseys; whatever you wear when you’re outside doing your endurance thing - it’s a MUST that you look great doing it. Check out these elite jerseys that Boston Marathoners had on yesterday:

It’s All For Show: On Sunday, a Chinese native ‘won’ the Beijing Half Marathon, and claimed a $5500 prize purse. We say ‘won’ because if you watch the footage back; 3 Kenyan athletes were in the lead, and less than 100 yards from the finish; looked at each other, looked at He Jie (winner), and slowed to nearly a walk - allowing He Jie to pass by, win the race, followed by a 3-way tie by the Kenyans. It’s super sus.

Underachiever: If your social feed this week looks like ours; it’s full of your fast running friends bragging about that unicorn jacket they got for running 26.2 miles. Don’t let your speedy crew diminish your achievements; even if it’s leaping over dead animals in your local 5K:

🏃Bucket List Recs

Big training week behind ya and want to add something to your bucket list? Need something to kick your butt into high gear? Check out our endurance bucket list recs below and sign up for something you’ll probably regret when you’re doing a 20 mile training run in August in the Midwest.

  • PTO T100 Tour: If you’re a triathlete junkie; you’ve probably heard by now about the PTO T100 Tour - a professional triathlete competition that will pay out millions in prize earnings over the season. If you’re looking for a way to participate alongside your favorite pro, and receive (some) of the same swag they do; you can now sign-up for an age group T100 race. It’s not IM-branded; but is that really a bad thing?

  • The Boston (Marathon) 10K: Not everyone can qualify for Boston - but if you still have dreams of running those storied streets and crossing the finish line, the Boston 10K, which happens the day before the marathon each year, is a great FUN option to partake in the weekend festivities.

  • West Elk Bicycle Classic: A point-to-point road cycling event between Gunnison and Crested Butte; you have the backdrop of the gorgeous Rockies, and world-class level bike support/SAG during the event.

Performance Of The Week(end): Eden Rainbow-Cooper.

Eden Rainbow-Cooper, 22 years young, raised money from friends & family for her race chair last year, has no sponsors and today; was crowned the Boston Marathon wheelchair champ. We love a self-funded race queen.
