Week 47
‘Tis the season to travel with your family, eat an ungodly amount of food, binge on cookies and fall off the workout bandwagon. Throughout the craziness of this holiday szn, stay focused on getting outside and moving your body - for a managable amount of time. Take the pledge to run at least 1 mile, outside, every day, from Thanksgiving Day to New Years Day. Walk, run, drag your dog - just get outside and do the dang thing. We can all commit to one mile - no special gear necessary (seriously, some of us have literally ran this mile in Crocs through the Atlanta Airport C Terminal to keep the streak alive). If you’re so inclined take the ‘official’ Runner’s World Challenge, #RWRunStreak and find a sense of community within their Facebook group.

Whoops: Go screenless with your fitness tracker - Whoop is (of course) having a BF sale on Amazon. Get a 12-month subscription with your purchase (and it’s $40 cheaper than MSRP).
Mo Wilson Update: Justice is served for Mo Wilson - Kaitlin Armstrong sentenced.
👇Listen to a Cadence-recommended Playlist: TBH, we don’t even know where Mercer County is, but this random Turkey Trot playlist is giving BTE - Big Turkey Energy. Now go win your age group on Thursday.

Tidbits
History Lesson on Tandems: The Olympics used to host some unhinged sports. Tandem cycling - in a velodrome. This was well before FAT timing, aerobars and high-tech cycling kits. Tandem teams were - like they are today - 2 cyclists on a single bike, with a captain (person in the front) and a stoker (person in the back). To get rolling, literally, officials would give ‘em a push from behind and they’d be off. Check out this WILD video of what tandem racing used to entail.
✅Justice Is Served: Kaitlin Armstrong, murderer of Mo Wilson (elite cyclist), was sentenced to 90 years in prison after the jury deliberated for just 3 hours. 40 days on the run, an international manhunt, and an attempted jailbreak, Armstrong’s defense still maintains she “has been trapped in a nightmare of circumstantial evidence.”
✅Win For The Good Guys: Athletes DO have a say and can effect change when we come together. USATF recently announced that they would move the Olympic Trials for the marathon to 10 AM to provide better weather conditions for athletes looking to punch their Paris Olympic ticket in Orlando.
✅You can’t be what you can’t see: The list of Black Female American marathoners to break the 3 hour mark just added a 31st notch, with Dannielle McNeilly. Training is more than ticking off miles; it’s about learning to enjoy the journey and reframing the “I HAVE to go workout” to “I GET to go workout.” Dannielle prioritized being happy, and broke barriers she never dreamed possible.
✅Eat This, Not That: The idea of “earning” what you eat is a toxic rabbit hole you NEED to stay away from, at any cost. In a world of diet culture, and glorifying unhealthy relationships with exercise, take this as your reminder that you do not need to earn the right to eat. Food is fuel, and fuel is what you need to go kick ass.
🏃Bucket List Recs
Big training week behind ya and want to add something to your bucket list? Need something to kick your butt into high gear? Check out our endurance bucket list recs below and sign up for something you’ll probably regret when you’re doing a 20 mile training run in August in the Midwest.
Sydney Marathon: When can you sign up for an international marathon where it’s less than a $1/kilometer? The Sydney Marathon is rolling out a unique marketing campaign. Use code ASICS4220 for a $42.20 race entry. Last time we checked, you can’t even buy a 6-pack of socks for 40 bucks.
Groundhog Run: SubTropolis is a subterranean business complex that is just about 150 feet underground in Kansas City, MO. This event is hosted by the groundhog mascot - GUS (Great Underground Space) and is the only totally underground sanctioned 10K. Not sure there’s any other good reason to visit KC, so be one with the groundhogs and join 4500 runners in this unique race.
Legoland Kid’s Mile: OK, maybe this isn’t the most extreme event we’ve put on this list, but if you’ve got kids, this is what’ll give them the endurance bug you’ve got. Get early access to Legoland and run a marathon mile (it’s actually just a mile - we cringed too at ‘marathon’ mile) for the kiddos.
Performance Of The Week(end): Parker Valby, new Queen of DI Cross Country
Valby ran away with the title after the first kilometer, breaking the tape 18:55. Florida finished 5th overall in the team standings.
