Week 34

The End of an Era. Daniela Ryf was slated to compete at least one more time this year in long-course triathlon. Yesterday - in a very surprising Insta post, she shared she’s been battling some injuries and is retiring, effective immediately. Daniela Ryf was responsible for ushering in a new era of triathlon; one where women were just as dominant, fierce and entertaining to watch as the men triathletes. She dominated on essentially any course she competed; ending with 5 140.6 World Championship and 5 70.3 World Championship victories. We aren’t sure what the next era of tri will be; but we’re certain we’ll stick around to find out.

Enjoy retirement, Daniela!

👇Watch a Cadence-recommended Vid: The stunner of a 1500M runner…Cole Hocker. Did you know Team USA has more 1500M medals than 4×100 Relay medals? That’s because the relay team keeps fumbling the bag (baton).

Tidbits

No, No, No: Sam Long loses out on his bid for a Kona slot this year. He tried to swing IM Frankfurt, amongst his busy race/travel schedule with T100 and missed the mark.

Tri the Big Apple: The New York City Triathlon is the latest in a long & storied line of races to be cancelled, indefinitely. 70.3 New York is a perfect way to scratch the itch if you’re an NYC-area triathlete looking for a branded triathlon that’s within driving distance. Being able to sleep in your own bed AND not have to box up your bike, wondering if you have all the pieces? SCORE.

UK Gravel Cycling: Gravel cycling and gravel bikes are fairly new concepts - something conceptualized in the US, and just now making across The Pond. Naturally, the UK is primed to partake in this new endeavor; they’ve had dirt roads and beautiful countryside for centuries. Take a ride off the literal beaten path the next time you find yourself in the UK.

Honey, Where is my Supersuit?!: The Olympic archives are deep, but undoubtedly there’s more iconic moments than others. Cathy Freeman’s 400M win…on home turf, in THIS outfit. It’s true: legends never die, and Cathy’s performance is legendary.
